12 Oct 2006 – NE Structural timbers for the west end are in place. Notice the lap joint connecting to the Garage timber. The alcove created is just outside the Mud Room and will be fenced to allow the dogs limited access to the outdoors. |
26 Oct 2006 – E Damaged parts of the old structure have been removed. Replacement timbers are up and the parapet wall that connects to the main structure has been poured. Compare this to the situation in January. |
26 Oct 2006 – ESE Adam, Paul and Lars check the plans to see what comes next. Note the Stub Teasel Tenons on the timber wall posts. These will fit into mortises on a timber tie beam. [Timber frame carpenters love jargon!] |

26 Oct 2006 – ESE These timber tie beams are being mortised to fit onto the tenons of the previous picture. Arched trusses for the Great Room are in the background. |
30 Oct 2006 – WNW Another view of the timber posts, after a snow storm. Looking across what will be the South Patio. |
31 Oct 2006 Close-up of a mortise in a timber tie beam. The inner mortise is for the stub teasel tenon, the outer mortise is for the timber post, which is about 2" narrower than the beam. |
